ThresholdArts E-book

I finally got to design something I have been wanting to do for a long time! An interactive book, with flipping pages. After some research I used BOOKLET a plugin using jquery and I also found a rad Moleskine type design. Background image is a free texture from Artist Dyrk Wyrst - he has some really beautiful stuff. Most of the images are also from his flickr feed actually. His moody images really go well with what ThresholdArts is trying to convey. I added Marylizs music as an mp3 - just by embedding it. Don't know if this is the best way to do it. But it plays well and you can use the play pause controls. Note: it does take alittle while to download if you are viewing the page in Firefox.

Check it!

Brotherpalooza Invite

Just wanted to share a fun invite I created for the event: BROTHERPALOOZA.
Had a lot of fun searching through images of pin ups girls from the 50's. The invite itself is also based off of an old advertisement for camel cigarettes.

Maryliz Smith Website

Just finished up a site for performance artist Maryliz Smith. She wanted it simple and stunning. Her current site used black as a background making it alittle too severe, but since she wanted to keep it on the darker side, we swapped the black out for a nice dark gray with a yellow tone. We also added text and navigation buttons in green. To keep with her organic feel.

Looks good! The beautiful nature images on her site are from flickr. Photo artist Dyrk Wyst. I also added a music player built with javascript and HTML 5. I'm still having issues with it and the current firefox, but hoping to resolve the issues soon!

I am also currently working on a type of e-book for her. Exciting stuff as I can start to utilize HTML5. There are so many possibilities for sound and animation!

M Public Relations NEW site!

After much anticipation I am happy to reveal the NEW website of Vancouver, BC public relations company - M P R. They wanted something clean, modern and androgynous, with a flash of purple. To match their fabulous logo, created by a Vancouver graphic designer. So this is what we ended up with:

We also added a wicked slideshow for the home page and a twitter feed. Looks awesome! SO happy to have been able to work with Morgan and Mieka and I wish them the best of luck on their new endeavour!

Tim Eliot Actor Site

Just finished up a site for Tim Eliot an actor in NYC. He had very clear ideas on what the site should look like and pretty much designed it. I just built his vision!  I added a cool slideshow and used google fonts with jquery for his press page, to make different looking fonts. Check it out!

Easy contact forms

A contact form is so ideal for a website. Especially for an actor. It makes you look professional and you can still keep your privacy by not having to show your email address on your site. Also - a contact form is a great tool against hackers, if they can't see your email address, they can't spam it. For extra protection, adding a "captcha" style box at the end of your form, really deters the spammers even more, as a computer has a hard time typing out a specific word.

There are  a lot of ways to create a contact form, you can go the good old php route for ex... But recently I stumbled across a site called JOTFORM. It's free and easy to use. It also has a ton of possibilities,  both design wise and content wise. It allows you to embed your easily created form into your site in multiple ways, as a lightbox, an iframe and more.

Let's hope it lives up to my expectations!

Sharing

Free hosting!

When I build sites for clients, I like for them to see the progress as we go along. Instead of using their url,  I set up a temporary site for them to visit.

There are a bunch of free hosting sites out there, but I have often found that they tend to be quite buggy and annoying. Zymic is a great one. I can add multiple sites to my account and they always connect fast and easy. Only problem with free hosting is that it has limited space, so if you happen to have a big image file on your site, chances are your free host won't be able to carry it.

Here is an example of zymic at work - Frances Chewning's Temporary website.

Cushy CMS

I found this great site that allows the web designer (me) to make any site editable for the client (you).
It's super easy to use and best of all it's FREEEEEE! So far no bugs, we'll have to wait and see...

New ways to showcase your website

I am digging the "all on one page" way to navigate a site. You click and it scrolls to where you want to go. No need to build several pages, it's all on one.

Check out this Norwegian site I came across:
